Book in progress- A view inside an English Crown Court: On stage and off stage

There is also a plan to publish a second book which will be aimed at a broader audience and is going to be less specific than the first one. In my thesis I could not use all the research materials I had gathered over the years. In addition to the numerous hand written transcripts of hearings I created, I have been spending time with a range of people working in the crown court and attending it. I work shadowed different members of the judiciary, legal advocates for the defence and prosecution and workers from the Youth Offending Team. I also talked to porters and some of the clerks, defendants and their families, victims that have been affected by crime, and jurors (whom I knew). I had been down in the cells of the court, in all the four judges’ chambers and I was able to observe court hearings from the judge’s bench. This enabled me to witness some things I could not see from the public gallery. I have been keeping diaries where I kept notes on what I heard and saw in the court over those many years. The book aims to share my unusual experiences and encounters with anyone who is interested in criminal justice and who likes to know what happens in the crown court, on and off stage.
